The WeGov project ‘Where e-Government meets the e-Society’ is a project funded by the European Commission, which seeks to enhance the degree of interaction between government and its constituents, through the development of a Toolset that will provide Policy Makers with the tools to harness the power of SNSs. The project has published a report that provides a general legal and ethical analysis of the issues arrising from the development and use of the Toolset and a set of recommendations (where possible) on how to deal with identified legal risks; and finally to assist the Consortium in identifying and dealing with areas of risk, primarily through the provision of a checklist. The report provided the legal and ethical context for the technical work which is summarised in D5.1 Scenario definition, advisory board and legal/ethical review. Here we see how privacy (i.e. content, anonymization) and security (trust, confidentiality, integrity, etc) requirements are identified building on the legal analysis to provide a sound baseline for technical developments and improving the likelihood of acceptance and exploitation.
